Brain training is possible with the help of therapy called neurofeedback. In such therapy you don’t need any kind of pills or talk with therapist. You can train it in such a way which you want. Any person with some kind of neurological or psychiatric disorders can be treated with such therapy.
Children having Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), who have difficulty in focusing (to stick to the same thing for long time) can be treated. As focused and unfocused brain works differently, researchers are investigating if neurofeedback training helps children with induce a focused brain state or not.
How neurofeedback works?
Basically, it is training to change the way your brain works, changing its functioning. This is done with the help of behavior-changing power of operant conditioning. Operant conditioning is the process in which every command given is having some conditions. For example, if we once give a treat to a dog when he sits on commanding, then the dog will sit every time he is commanded to sit. Because, the dog needs the treats.
So, use of operant conditioning we can have healthier brain functioning. It is about the activity of brain with desirable or undesirable outcomes. For example, in some brain training games, we are getting rewards like points and loses points when unwanted brain activities occurs. Such process of gaining and losing points brings changes in brain activities for long time.

How to detect brain activities?
There are two techniques for detecting functioning of brain: EEG (Electro Encephalon Graphy) and fMRI (functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging). Here, EEG method is used to know the nature of activity occurring whereas fMRI is used to determine that which part of brain is active.

So, for treatment of children having ADHD disorder are rewarded when the proportion of beta brain waves are detected in certain regions of cortex with the help of EEG. Thus due to getting rewards the children will tend to promote beta waves and suppress theta waves. Theta waves are having lower frequency and beta waves are having higher frequency. So, more the stimulation of beta waves, more is the concentration.
EEG is the method by which we are able to detect brain activities in cortex. Cortex is outer most layer of the brain. During EEG test some electrodes are placed on the brain which detects the neurons when activated. Thus, due to detection of such neurons in some part of cortex helps to determine the functioning of brain.
fMRI is the method in which some patterns of flow of blood is analyzed. The flow of blood in cortical areas and the layer beneath cortex is being focused. The amount of blood flowing in some specific areas describes the activity of brain. More the flow of blood, more is the brain active.
Thus, this kind of tests are carried out during different kind of activities a person doing. By analyzing them all we can conclude that how to train are brain. The activity we are likely to perform with more focus and concentration, can be trained as we want by operant conditioning.
Thus, we can go for neurofeedback for better life if we want to make it really satisfactory for us and for our better future.
